Sea Day Partly Cloudy Temp 31c Windy & Lumpy sea.
Another port talk today this time at 9am so it had to be an
early breakfast. The port talk was about the Greek island of Mykonos. It had to
be at 9am because at 10am we had pirate drill. When we leave Colombo, we will
be in Pirate territory until Dubai, and then again until we enter the Red Sea.
It is an international regulation that all ships must prepare in case of an
attack by pirates. When the alarm bells ring we should return to our cabin via
an internal route, make sure all curtains and balcony doors are closed. We
should prop the cabin door open so that the crew will know we are there and can
give us instructions if necessary. It is very unlikely that pirates would
tackle a ship of this size and there are war ships from various nations
patrolling the area. After lunch we went to the ballroom class were John was
supposed to be showing us the Evening Three Step but he started with a review
of the samba. As usual when he got to the Evening Three Step he made it
progressive which we don’t like so we danced at the back on the carpet. We
spent the rest of the afternoon reading our books. The ship is moving about a
lot more now that we are in the open sea in the Bay of Bengal which is part of
the Indian Ocean. It was a formal night tonight and we had received an
invitation to the Captain’s cocktail party but we did not go. These events tend
to be a bit of a bun fight, we may go to one later in the cruise. One of the
lead singers in the production company has lost their voice so the performance
of Shimmy was cancelled tonight which is just as well I saw it last night. We
went to the Vista Lounge to see Phil Cass a comedy magician who was very funny
and he did an amazing trick where he cut a passengers tie in half and later in
the show he joined it back together again and you could not tell where it was
cut. The owner even signed the cut half to prove it was his tie. Another half
an hour back on the clocks tonight.
