Anzac Cove Sunny Temp 29c
During the night we passed
through the Strait of Dardanelles and I was woken up by gale force winds which
did not seem to last for very long. At 6am we were in Anzac Cove and the
Captain got the ship as close as he dared to the land. At 8am the Anzac service
was held which was very moving especially when the Captain reminded us that
over 33000 Australians and New Zealanders were killed in this area, mostly
young boys not much older than our grandsons Ryan & Mitchell. There were of
course probably as many Turks killed as well and we thought of them as well. At
breakfast this morning we were all given sprigs of Rosemary for rememberance. This
morning we were presented with a certificate to say that we were in the team
that won bronze in the Greek a thon Carpet Bowls competition. (Photo maybe
attached) In case you are wondering why it was called Greek etc it was because
the comp. ran until Athens when a series of ports started with no sea days to
play. There will be another comp started when we have more sea days.
For entertainment tonight we
went to see Jay J Downs a Saxophone player who has worked with Tom Jones. He
was billed as Yakety Sax player and we were not expecting much. However he was
great, he not only plays the Sax but he also plays guitar and he can sing. It
turned out to be a good night, unfortunately that was his last show as he gets
off the ship tomorrow in Santorini.
