14th June

Sea Day Cloudy Temp 30c Sea very rough.
We woke today early because the ship was moving around quite a lot. We are travelling through the edge of a tropical cyclone the centre of which is 200 miles away but we are getting the swell. Instead of going to the Horizon Court on deck 15for breakfast we decided to go to the dining room on deck 5 where you don’t feel the movement so much. When we checked to see what team we are in for carpet bowls we found we are in the Red team and that we were playing the Green team at 9.45am.  They say red cars go faster which is what happened to my first bowl which went way past the jack, I am happy to say that the next one was much better. Betty got one good one in as well. In spite of our efforts our team was beaten. The Blue & Yellow teams played in the afternoon when the ship was moving about even more. Because of the timing we missed the port talk on Venice but we can catch up with it on our cabin TV later. On Bev’s recommendation I went to the lecture in the series “World Geography & Adventure Film Making “given by Martin Darrah who is an American film maker. His lectures are more documentary film showings than a talk but he does do voice overs along the way. This lecture was entitled “The Silk Road” and it was part one with part two tomorrow. I found it very interesting and will be going to his other lectures.  Nothing much to  interest us this afternoon so Betty spent the time putting her photographs onto the computer and I did some reading plus playing that stupid but addictive game of Candy Crush on my iPad. For those that play I am up to level 29 and am having trouble getting any further but so far I have managed to stay ahead of Betty.
Our evening entertainment was to listen to Maddi Cryer in the Princess Theatre. She is TV’s singing impressionist entertainer from the UK. She sang songs in the various styles of other singers. She even sang like Olivia Newton John, well not quite as well but she was entertaining. Her act was accompanied  by the occasional bang as the ship hit a wave.
