Mykonos Sunny temp 28c
We docked at 7am in our first
port since Dubai. We were already up as we had ordered breakfast in our cabin
for 6.30 – 7am. Today we had a tour which started at 8.15am. Mykonos is a part
of the Cyclades, lying between Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos. It is situated
150 kms east of Athens in the Aegean Sea. It’s nickname is The Island of Winds,
as it can get quite windy here. Our tour was “Mykonos Town & Island Drive.
After boarding our motorcoach we drove to the beach Agios Ioannis which is
famous for having been featured in the movie Shirley Valentine. From there we
had views of the island of Delos. We then continued to the tiny village of Ano
Mera in the centre of the island, home to the Panagia Tourliani Monastery.
Originally built in 1542 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary, its impressive
architecture, whitewashed exterior and coloured dome are charming. Next on our
tour we stopped for a while at Kalafatis Beach where we had coffee at $7 a cup
but the view was to die for. We continued our tour on to Mykonos town for a
walking tour. No cars are allowed in the town as the streets are all very
narrow and twisty. They are also lined with small shops selling souvenirs. Our
walking tour took us to the area called Little Venice and the site of the
famous windmills. The whole place is so photogenic. Our tour finished in the
town and we could either go back to the ship with the guide or stay in town and
catch the shuttle bus back to the ship which is what we did.
Most people had a long tiring
day today so the Princess Theatre was not full for the performance of Lisa
Lawton, a vocalist from Manchester in the UK. She sang mainly big band songs
from the forties onward. She has a very good voice and sung the songs we like.
