17th June

Sea Day Sunny Temp 29c very calm sea.
We are now in the Red Sea heading northwest towards the Gulf of Suez. The Red Sea has a maximum depth of 2211 metresin the central median tench and an average depth of 490 metres. The port talk today started at 9am because it was going to be a long one. As it was on Rome we decided not to go and instead went to the dining room for breakfast which makes a change for the buffet. Later on we went for coffee in la Patisserie on deck 5 and sat with 2 of our dinner companions Jan & Bob Walker and have a good conversation. After an early lunch I went to another lecture by Marlin Darrah in the series World Geography, this time on Egypt. He showed us part of the doco that he made while travelling with Paul Perry who was researching for a book about the travels of the Holy family in Egypt.
At 2pm we assembled for our carpet bowls game against team green and we drew.
Tonight we were entertained in the Princess Theatre by a Pianist Kym Purling who was accompanied by the Dawn Princess Orchestra. Kym started life in a Vietnam Orphanage and subsequently was adopted by a South Australian couple. In his professional life since he has toured the world as jazz pianist. For some time he was the musical director for Ingelbert Humperdinck (not sure of the spelling). We thoroughly enjoyed his show and can’t wait for his next one.
