Sea Day Sunny, partly cloudy.
Temp 31c
Today we passed through the
Strait of Bab-El-Mandeb which I am sure you all know is at the bottom of the
Red Sea and is a strait between Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula and Djibouti and
Eritrea in the Horn of Africa. Bab-El-Mandeb
means “Gateway of Anguish” or “Gateway of Tears” the strait derives its name from the dangers
attending its navigation years ago.
After breakfast we went straight
to carpet bowls as our team was playing the Yellow team at 9.45am. The Yellow
team had not lost a match and we have not won one. We turned into giant killers
as we won 16 to 13 with much rejoicing. After lunch I went to another World
Geography lecture on Madagascar a country I knew very little about. The Limas
there are gorgeous. Marlin also went there in search of buried Pirate treasure
as when the British Navy chased the Pirates out of the Caribbean they went to
Madagascar and it is thought buried some of their treasure on the Pirate
Island. Marlin did find a quantity of old coins there. Quite a number of Pirate
Ships sunk in the harbour so it it a great place for Scuba Divers.
Showtime tonight was a
production show “British Invasion”. Although there were 3 shows tonight we
wanted to go to the 7.45pm show and we knew the theatre would be full so
everyone on our table decided to skip deserts and get down to the Princess Theatre early.
Now that’s dedication passing up deserts. The early session was just coming out
when we got there and then they closed the theatre because they needed to
sanitize it. We are still not out of the norovirus outbreak procedures. At
least we were near the front of the queue which then formed. The effort was
worthwhile as it was a great show. Afterwards we went with Bev & Ian to the
Atrium where the Dawn Princess Orchestra were playing Dixieland Jazz. This
finished off a very enjoyable night.
