Langkawi. Cloudy with occasional shower, particularly first
thing. Temp 28c
Four ports very close together can be tiring so we had
intended to stay on the ship today and have a quiet day. However we could not
resist going for a ride on the shuttle bus to the nearest beach area to take a
look. Also we thought we may be able to get fast WiFi so we took our iPads.
Langkawi is a duty free area so there are lots of shops selling all sorts of
items including booze even though Malaysia is predominately a Muslim country.
After looking in one of the shops which seemed to sell everything we headed for
McDonalds where you are sure to find WiFi and a Mac Café. Both were there but
the WiFi was nearly as slow as on the ship as at every table there was someone
using their tablet or phone to connect to the internet. I did manage to send
yesterday’s edition of this blog . It was a Sunday and it is school holidays
here at present so there were lots of families about. We still had some
ringgits left so we went back into a shop to see what we could get for the
money. In there they were taking your photograph and putting it on a small
plate for 15 ringgits which left us with 1.74 which went into the charity
collection on the ship.
Langkawi is an island located in the Andaman sea, it is
actually not one island but more than 100, most of them are just tiny specks.
There are quite a lot of resorts here so it must be a popular spot for
tourists. When we were here last time I remember we went for a white knuckle
cable car ride up a steep mountain. Some on our table went there today and they
said part of the ride was up through the clouds.
Ashley Carruthers was back tonight in the Princess Theatre.
You will recall he was on 2 nights ago and we loved him. He was so popular
tonight that they simulcast his shows into the Vista Lounge. If you ever get a
chance to see and hear him play piano do so he is great. After a hot chocolate
while listening to David Crathorne on piano in the Atrium we retired to bed as
we have an early start tomorrow on a tour in Phuket. We do get an extra hour
tonight as we have to put our c locks back 1 hour.
