Piraeus for Athens, Sunny Temp
26c.
Having been here quite a few
times we could not quite decide what to do today. We did consider taking the
little train which goes around Piraeus or catching the train up to Athens as we
have done before. The station is quite a walk and that got vetoed, the little
train route did not sound very inspiring so we settled on the Hop on Hop off
bus which we found starts in Piraeus and goes to Athens. Actually it is two
lines. The Blue line tours Piraeus then goes to Athens where it links up with
the Red line which then tours Athens going past all the tourist sites. We went
to the turnaround point for the Blue line then transferred to the Red line.
After going all the way round taking photos from the open air top, we then went
around as far as Monastiraki Square and got off so that we could have lunch and
a look around the shops there. The whole trip cost 22 Euros each but Betty
asked for seniors discount and got it for 20 Euros. We had lunch in one of those
cafes set out on the footpath where we had a typical Greek lunch of Moussaka and Greek Salad. If Shirley & Barry are looking at
this blog they will remember having coffee near this spot when we were here on
the 2010 cruise. Betty now has a new necklace and I have a new man bag plus a
frig magnet and some Ozo. We thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Our entertainment tonight was Jo
Little, billed as Yorkshires UK’s Queen of Comedy. Her name is Little and she
is, but see gave a big performance, she not only told lots of jokes but she can
sing as well.
